non\places

November 20-23, 2023

In the past, place was something into which bodies come to be. A position within geographical space as the marker by which it found definition in the world and by which it was singularly distinguished.

Our modern age of interconnection sees dispersion as the mark of innovation. The absence of fixed geographical space celebrates a new age of globalised capitalism situated within networks of technology that no longer signify singular co-ordinates.

Becoming chains of code traversing fibre optic cables through the circuit boards of data centres to refresh upon the pixels of our screens.

Yet that which no longer holds significance as a “place” is also its own point of non-localisation. Inverting one of singular definition to a site of continual flux – a canvass upon which things now appear as ephemeral points of resonance and connection.

A terrain traversed by works of art in which there is no longer a singular piece, but the many sites in which it manifests.
