For the 2024 edition of NFT Paris, myce collective worked on two commissioned installation from Paris-based artist Lukas Truniger. The artwork was commussioned by Polygon Labs.
The work conssited of 2 separated installations.
Undergrown
The project is proposing a hacking protocol for re-purposing obsolete crypto- mining hardware. It has the objective to reuse its computing power for volunteer science projects by creating a cluster computer and a DAO (decentralized autonomous organization) for its strategic organization. The modified miners are thus helping to reduce planetary existential risk exposure (in financial terminology: to hedge). For its installation form, a hedge bush and a plant communication process are mimicked by the unprofitable infrastructure of decentralized finance.
An automated Self (v0.1 non-interactive)
The installation reflects the nature of our modern self, shaped by repetitive interactions with computational entities designed to captivate and manipulate our attention, desires, and fears. It proposes the concept of a “programmed self” – a self that has absorbed the behavior of algorithms through countless and continuous interactions, to the point that it has assimilated their dynamics.
